Gold Nugget = Lifeless Restaurant with okay burgers.

Alright so it's time for an update to yesterday's post.

I couldn't just sit idly by and make blind passing judgement so I visited the restaurant formerly known as the Gold Nugget in Glen Lake, MN.

The decor is bland, its the same yuppie american bar and grille that you will find all across America. Large dominating bar, lots of woodwork, tall ceilings and "craftsman" style touches throughout. If your from around Minnesota you'll recognize hints of Champs, Redstone, Napa Grille, and if you play in and around the southwest twin cities, you'll definitely feel nuances of Jakes in E.P. or Jake O'Connors and Hazellewood Grille in Excelsior.

First off this is definitely not a burger joint anymore, the only thing remotely bovine about the place is that it will most certainly become a "meat market" for AARP card carrying divorcees. But I digress, on to the food.

For $8 bucks you can get the signature "Gold Nuggets" appetizer, basically tater tots will cheddar cheese in the center...SKIP EM. In our order, the cheese wasn't even melted...and for eight bucks you get SIX medium sized TOTS!

I ordered a Bacon cheeseburger with fried onions. The "original nugget burger" is $8.50 with original toppings at $.75 and gourmet toppings at $1.50. Bacon is a gourmet topping fried onions are an original topping. I asked for a side of Mayo. My burger came out first without the side or the onions, our ketchup bottle was empty and the fried onions are the frizzy type you see on the top of green bean casserole. Overall the burger was good, lifeless but good.

My final take.

The service was poor- that will get better once they iron out the wrinkles.

The price was a little high - not a deal breaker the old nugget was spendy for burgers too.

The decor is different - if your a retiree with a high disposable income you'll probably love it. It can't compare it to the original, but really what did I expect.

The hamburger is good - not great but good, probably not going to win any awards, but given the lack of dining options in Minnetonka. I expect this restaurant to thrive.

If your in the neighborhood stop in, but the Gold Nugget is definitely not the destination burger joint that it once was.
